Jim was my barber for many, many years. He & his family used to come out to our house northeast of Bluff City for backyard BBQ's and he and dad were very good friends. There was quite the group in downtown Vandalia; Abbey (the barber with Jim), Vernon Berger, Dave Reeter, Herman Miller (all at Denny's), Ed Aderman (Higgins Cleaners),dad at the Vandalia Mutual Insurance office, Bill Wright at Fidelity Clothing Store and a whole slough of other folks. It was quite a time for great friendships and really quite impressive as to the loyalty each of the guys had for each other. Jim was part of that group and they never missed an opportunity to take a little swipe (or chide one another in good fun). Something we probably need more of today. Jim will be missed - what a great guy!
