Darrell “Wayne” Hathaway, 91, of Vandalia, IL, passed away at 8:15 AM, Monday, July 01, 2024 at SBL Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care. Per Wayne's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A Graveside Service and Interment will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia with Rev. Fr. Seth Brown officiating. Military Rites will be accorded at the graveside by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia, IL & Brownstown VFW Post #9770. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the American Diabetes Association. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com. Darrell Wayne Hathaway was born on August 27, 1932 in Patoka, IL, the son of Robert J. and Mabel R. (Watkins) Hathaway. Wayne was a proud military veteran having served in the United States Army from 1952-1954, during the Korean War. He married Betty Jean Jackson in May of 1969. Together, they celebrated 55 years of marriage. Wayne was a retired teamster and was formerly employed by Vandalia Transfer. After retirement, he spent many years traveling, camping and enjoying his family. Wayne was a member of Mother of Dolors Catholic Church and Crawford Hale-American Legion Post #95 where he served as Sergeant at Arms for several years and organized many events honoring Veterans, including Veteran's and Memorial Day celebrations as well as Military funerals. Mr. Hathaway is survived by his wife, Betty Hathaway of East Peoria; daughter, Dana and husband Doug Oldham of Taylorville; son, Alan Hathaway and wife Jody of Quincy; daughter, Camille and husband Brian Brown of Shobonier; son, Tom Hathaway and wife Chris of East Peoria; son, Darby Hathaway and significant other Renee Wright of Vandalia; sister, Ruth Dugan of Mulberry Grove; grandchildren, Beth, Keri, Michael, Jordan, Bonita, Nathaniel, Jessica, Courtney, Abbigail, Olivia, David, Jennifer, Ashley, Donovan, Bradley, Lyndsey, Stefan, Jake, Dalton, Samantha, Leila, and Jersee; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family & friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lori and husband Tim Bedinger; brothers, Morris Hathaway and Eugene Hathaway; sisters, Evelyn Talbot and Lily Reed.
