Dr. Donald H. Rames, 84, of Vandalia, passed away at 7:00 am, Friday, September 14, 2012 at his home in Vandalia, IL. A memorial services for Dr. Rames will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 29, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, Vandalia, IL with Dr. Roger Grimmett, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL. A visitation will be held from 5-8 pm, Friday, September 28, 2012 First United Methodist Church, Vandalia, IL. Memorials may be made to Fayette County Hospital, Family YMCA of Fayette County, or the First United Methodist Church of Vandalia. Dr. Rames was born February 4, 1928, in Butler, SD, the son of Harry S. and Mae (Bigler) Rames. He graduated from Watertown HS in 1946, University of SD in 1950, he married Phyllis Johnson Rames August 21, 1951 in Harvard, IL and finished his schooling at the University of IL School of Medicine in 1954. He also served in the United States Army. Dr. Rames was very involved in the community of Vandalia serving as Charter member of the American Academy of Family Practice (AAFP), he held all offices over time for Fayette County Medical Society, member of Illinois State Medical Society, American Medical Association, Vice President of Medical Affairs of BJC Hospital - Vandalia, Member of First United Methodist Church, Board of Directors of First National Bank of Vandalia, Vandalia Rotary Club, Past President of Fayette County American Heart Association, Past President of Fayette County American Cancer Society, Past President of County Board of Health, Operation Outing Board Member, Vandalia Community District School Board 1962-1971, he won Fayette County Citizen of the Year 1963 and an Abe Award for Service to the Community. He is survived by his wife Phyllis of Vandalia; son Dr. Richard Rames and wife Sue, St. Louis, MO; daughters Ann Rexroat Duncan, Coppell, TX and Mary Rames Orr and husband Mike, Brentwood, TN; grandchildren Lindsay, Richard, Douglas, Alexandra, Laura, Mary, David, Andrew, Katherine, Sarah, Michael, Christopher, Andrea, and Sam. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Dr. Douglas Rames, and brother Duane A. Rames
