Fern R. Henry, 90, of Vandalia, IL passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at her home. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 03, 2022 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia with Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Interment will follow at McInturff Cemetery, rural Vandalia. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 10:00-11:00 AM, Monday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Second Chance Animal Rescue, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the American Heart Association. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com Fern Rosalie O’Dell was born on September 02, 1931 in St. Elmo, IL, the daughter of Alva and Lela (Craig) O’Dell. She married Kenneth Henry on October 27, 1950 in St. James, IL. Together, they celebrated nearly 45 years of marriage before his passing on September 21, 1995. Fern had various jobs throughout the years; she was a dental assistant for Dr. Ervin, employed by P. N. Hirsh, and eventually worked as a sales associate for Walmart-retiring after 22 years of employment. She was affiliated with Parkview Free Methodist Church, Vandalia and was a former member of the Women of the Moose- Vandalia Moose Lodge #1447. Fern was an avid reader, enjoyed her time spent playing bunco with her friends, and loved vacationing with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Henry is survived by her daughters, Marsha and husband, Dennis Harrison and Melody Meyer, both of Vandalia; grandchildren, Denessa Battles and fiancé, Chad Armstrong, Haley Meyer, and Megan Meyer; and great-grandchildren, Elynn Hamby, Jack Armstrong, Ace Armstrong, and Gemma Armstrong. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Lucille Metzger.
