September 20, 1926 - January 16, 2019

Glenda Rosevelle Meredith Lawler, 92, of Pekin, IL, formerly of Vandalia, passed away at 10:23 PM, Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 21, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, Vandalia with Rev. Kurt Simon officiating. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Visitation will be held prior to services from 9:00-10:00 AM, Monday, January 21, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Evans Public Library. Glenda Rosevelle Meredith Lawler was born on September 20, 1926 in Centralia, IL, the daughter of John Eldo and Vera Zolalia (Tate) Meredith. She was a 1943 graduate from Vandalia Community High School. Glenda married Charles Edward Lawler on April 1, 1948 in Vandalia, IL; he preceded her in death on November 25, 2015. Together, they shared 67 years of marriage and raised two children. Glenda was a retired editor and general manager of the Leader Union Publishing Co. She was also the past director of the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce, past director of Southern Illinois Editorial Association, past president of Evans Public Library Board of Trustees, past president of Fayette County Hospital Auxiliary, past president of Vandalia Business and Professional Women's Organization, she served on the Executive Committee of the City of Vandalia's 175th Celebration, and she was the recipient of the City of Vandalia's 'Abe Award' in 1988. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Jane Lawler Meyer of Mapleton, IL; son, Thomas Charles Lawler and wife, Doris of Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Meredith Meyer Hendel of Mapleton, IL, Michelle Meyer Messman and husband, Chad of Lafayette, IN, Gretchen Lawler of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Todd Lawler of Overland Park, KS; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Wyatt, Kallie, Conner, Tayler, Riddick, and Mya; and a sister, Jean Stombaugh of Vandalia. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sisters, Dorothy Cole and Maxine Smith.
