Abby Lang, 76, of Salem, IL, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, March 02, 2026, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, IN.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, March 06, 2026 at Salem Lutheran Church, Salem, IL, with Pastor Ethan Hart officiating. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM – 12:00PM, Friday, at the church. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, where Abby was a devout and faithful member. Online condolences can be expressed at https://www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Mary Abigail Metzger was born on May 16, 1949, in Shobonier, Illinois, to Charles John Metzger Jr. and Letha Madelyn (Abbott) Metzger. She was first married to Bruce Bradley, with whom she had two sons. Later, she married Lonnie Ray Lang on May 1, 1993, gaining a daughter and celebrating 32 years of marriage.
Abby worked for many years at North American Lighting in Salem and was also a “pink lady” volunteer at the local hospital. She enjoyed crocheting in her free time, often collecting yarn and visiting craft stores for new supplies. A cat lover, she was known for her strong family leadership, often taking charge and guiding her loved ones. As the family matriarch, she valued quality time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her dedication to family and her hobbies reflected her caring nature and her importance within her community and family circle.
Mrs. Lang is survived by her husband, Lonnie Lang of Salem; sons, Chad Bradley with Alisha of Catlin and Christopher Bradley and wife Moon of Austin, TX; daughter, Heather Nauert and husband Kenny of Centralia; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Madelyn Metzger; brothers, John Metzger and Robert Metzger.
