Alvin D. Helton, 61, of Vandalia, IL passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at SBL Fayette County Hospital.
Per Alvin’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, July 13, 2025 at Crown Point Church, rural Vandalia with Rev. Pete Leduc officiating. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the family or an organization of the donor’s choice. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Alvin Dennis Helton was born on November 21, 1963 in Paoli, IN, the son of James and Helen Irene (Mayes) Helton. He married Laurie Ann Ritchey on September 20, 1981. Together they celebrated 43 years of marriage and shared three children.
Alvin was a jack of all trades. He previously worked at Owen's Brockway and most recently as a truck driver. He is a current member of Crown Point Church and former member of Shoal Creek A.B.A.T.E. Alvin enjoyed riding motorcycles and assembling model cars. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends.
He will forever be remembered by his loving wife, Laurie Helton of Vandalia; son, Dennis Helton and wife Michelle of Vandalia; daughter, Jacqueline Nordyke and husband Butch of Shobonier; daughter, Camia Helton of Vandalia; father-in-law, Jesse L. Ritchey of Vandalia; sister, Christina Curry of Paoli, IN; sister, Darlene Helton and husband Louis of FL; sister-in-law, Vicki Helton of Salem, IN; grandchildren, William Nordyke II, Alexis Nordyke, Isabelle Helton, Maddy Nordyke, Logan Helton, Ryan Helton, Ethan Helton, and Angel Schoenhoff; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Mr. Helton was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Joyce “Meme” Ritchey; and brother, James C. Helton.
