Anita Mahon's Obituary
Anita K. Mahon, 82, of Vandalia, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at SBL Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Monday, February 23, 2026 at Northside Christian Church, Vandalia. Per Anita’s wishes, cremation rites will follow. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Northside Christian Church or to Brownstown First Christian Church. Online condolences can be expressed at https://www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Anita Kay Switzer was born on October 20, 1943, in Vandalia, Illinois, to Charles and Beulah (Sturgeon) Switzer. She married Jesse Alvin Mahon in the late 1970s; he preceded in death on January 18, 1997.
Anita's early employment included working at the Ben Franklin store in Vandalia, followed by a long career at Rural King, where she retired after 30 years. Known for her faith, kindness, and selflessness, she was a woman who never met a stranger and spoke kindly of everyone. A dedicated member of Northside Christian Church in Vandalia, she contributed her time to various church activities, including funeral dinners and gardening. Beyond her church involvement, Anita actively participated in community outreach, volunteering at the local food pantry, resale shops, and visiting residents at the nursing home.
She enjoyed outdoor activities such as walking and gardening, reflecting her love for nature and community service. Her life was marked by her devotion to faith, family, and helping others, leaving a lasting positive impact on those around her.
Mrs. Mahon is survived by her sons, Jeff Daley of Vandalia, David Daley and wife Lori of Rockville, IN, Steve Daley and wife April of Mulberry Grove; brother, Maurice Switzer of Highland; sister, Joyce Short of New Athens; grandchildren, Steven Daley, Andy Daley, Amber Bishop, Emily Bishop; great-granddaughter, Hadley; her church family and numerous friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents and husband.
