Betty Eileen Edgar, 82, of Vandalia, IL, passed away Monday, January 14, 2019, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 18, 2019, at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, Vandalia, with the Rev. Fr. Zachary Edgar officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 AM, prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, or for Masses to be offered for her at Mother of Dolors or at St. Elizabeth Church in Granite City.
Betty Edgar was born May 11, 1936 in Shelbyville, IL, the daughter of Vincent and Opal (West) Reed. She married Lyle Charles Edgar on December 14, 1952 in Shelbyville, IL. Betty was a member of Mother of Dolors Catholic Church and worked at several of the school buildings in Vandalia on the cleaning staff. She was blessed with 66 years of marriage and loved her first “job” as a mom and housewife. Through the years she enjoyed bowling, sewing, and sharing her memorable sense of humor with friends and family.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Kim (Paula) Edgar, Kevin (Connie) Edgar all of Vandalia, and Kelly (Teresa) Edgar of Greenville; grandchildren, Rev. Fr. Zachary Edgar, Hannah Edgar, Tyler Edgar, Nichol (Sam) Scott, Cody Edgar, Alyssa (George) Miller, and Caryssa Downs; great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Abigail, and Elijah Scott; half-sister, Helen Reed and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, Samuel Reed, many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rollie and Geneva Himes.
