Bill was a dear friend to my parents and our family. Life as neighbors, First Baptist, going to St Louis Cardinal Baseball games, and so many wonderful meals and experiences together enriched our lives. Praying for Shirley and the girls.

My deepest sympathy in Bill's passing. I moved from Vandalia about 1960 but remember him from the Baptist Church. Our family always used this funeral home, and when I had occasion to be there I was always impressed that he knew who I was and managed to pull me aside and visit for a few minutes. Really a fine example and great man.

Our deepest condolences to Shirley and all of Bill’s family. Bill was a cherished pillar of the Brown family reunion which we always enjoy visiting from our home in Indianapolis. Today would have been the 80th anniversary of the reunion. Bill will be solely sorely missed. - Larry, Susan, Jason and Melissa Brown/Hatton.
You have my sympathy, Shirley..Bill was a great guy and a friend that I won't soon forget. I have a lot of fond memories of Bill, and one of them was him, combing the ice out of his hair, when He got caught in an ice storm on the way to high school, when it was on Third Street. I knew Bill for over 75 years and he always had a big smile and a good word of wisdom for everyone.

While Bill was 8 mos. my senior, we were good friends in our small town.
My memories of Bill are that he always had a ready smile, was positive and his friendship was cherished by all. Since moving from Vandalia approximately 65 yrs. ago, I've not kept
up on his many services to the community. His obituary has brought me up to date and he led an impressive life in Vandalia.
My deepest sympathies to surviving wife and family.

I will always remember Bill as the greatest guy who really cared about others. He always greeted me with a smile and a big hello. He was my baseball coach and the best one ever. Everyone should strive to to be like Bill. He will be missed greatly.
