Carol Oldham's Obituary
Carol Lee Oldham, 84, of Vandalia, passed away on August 03, 2023 at her daughter's home in Vandalia, surrounded by her family.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Oldham will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 11, 2023 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia with Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 AM, prior to the service. Burial will be held at a later date in Griffith Cemetery, Brownstown. Carol Lee (Miller) Oldham was born November 10, 1938, in Brownstown, the daughter of Lester Raymond and Wilma Louise (Morris) Miller. She married Jackie Lee Oldham in 1958; together the shared nearly 40 years of marriage before his passing in 1997.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Brownstown, Crawford Hale American Legion Auxiliary Post #95, Red Hat Society, Effingham Line Dancers and a member of the Boot Scooter Line Dancers in Pana.
Carol began working for her father at Leck's Café in Brownstown; over the years she worked at Fayette County Hospital as a nursing aide; Princess Peggy Dress Factory in Vandalia as a machine operator; P.N. Hirsch Drapery Factory as a machine operator and later as assistant floor supervisor; Chelsea Enterprises as assistant manager; and at Majestic Drapery as a manager when she retired.
Carol was a godly woman who loved reading her bible and attending church. She was also an avid reader of many different genres and like crocheting; she would often gift her projects to others. She loved line dancing most of all and was scooting across the dance floor up until recently.
Carol is survived by son, James Oldham and wife Kelley of East Alton, IL; daughter, Tammy and husband Victor Thompson of Vandalia; grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Josh Smith and wife Angie, Matthew Oldham, Morgan and husband Kevin Pape, Logan Oldham, Samuel Pirtle, Daniel Malone and wife Elizabeth, and Madi Pirtle; great-grandchildren, Roman Smith and Millie Smith; brother, Jimmie Miller of Wilmington; sisters, Phyllis Pryor of Palm Shores, FL and Shirlee Novak of Dwight.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sister, Rita Miller.
