Carrol E Dugan's Obituary
Mr. Carrol Eugene Dugan, 86, of Vandalia, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at SBL Fayette County Hospital Vandalia.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, November 5, 2021 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia with Pastor Tom Goodell officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia; with military rites accorded by Brownstown VFW Post #9770 and Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia, IL. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 1:00-2:00pm, Friday, November 5, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Evans Public Library – Building Fund and online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com
Carrol Eugene Dugan was born March 17, 1935, in Vandalia, the son of Darrel and Ethel (Eller) Dugan. He married Sue Carol Lape on October 9, 1961 in Louisville, IL; together they shared over 40 years of marriage before her passing on January 12, 2003.
Carrol served in the US Navy for a total of 6 years, most of that time being foreign service and at sea. Mr. Dugan worked in law enforcement and investigations for over 30 years after his military career; he was the Chief of Police for the City of Vandalia, a Deputy Sheriff for Fayette County Sheriff’s Dept. and was an investigator for the IL States Attorney’s Office.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vandalia; Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95; Vandalia VFW Post #3862; Tin Can Sailors - The National Association of Destroyer Veterans; and the USS Rochester Association. Carrol enjoyed golfing with longtime friends, reading in his down time, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by sons, Gail Dugan and wife Sandy of Vandalia and Scott Dugan and Michelle of Marion; daughters, Tammy and husband John Carlson of Garden City, MI and Kristy and husband Kenny Arnold of Vandalia; grandchildren, Bianca, Shane, Georgia, Brandon, Caitlin, Meredith, Julianna, Brittney, Nathan, and Nicole; 20 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sue Dugan; and brother, Eldon Dugan.
