Charles Marvin Torbeck, 86, of Odin, IL passed away on Thursday, September 05, 2019 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 08, 2019 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia with Rev. Claude Howell officiating. Interment will follow in Farmer’s Cemetery, Shobonier. Military Rites will be accorded at the graveside by the Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia & Brownstown VFW Post #9770. Visitation will be held prior to services from 12:00-2:00 PM, Sunday, at Hohlt & File Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Charles Marvin Torbeck was born June 11, 1933 in Chicago, IL, the son of Benjamin and Bertha (Quant) Torbeck. He married Shelba Jean Pryor on March 29, 1963 in Vandalia; together they celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Marvin was a United States Army Veteran; serving in the Korean War. He worked as a backhoe operator for AC Mann, Inc. until his retirement and was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and Southern Illinois Antique Power Club.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Torbeck of Odin; sons, Mike Torbeck and wife, Jennifer of Sandoval and Terry Torbeck of Odin; daughter-in-law’s, Debbie Torbeck of Odin and Sue and husband, Steve Rankin of Decatur; brother, Jerry Torbeck and wife, Carolyn of Vandalia; grandchildren, Tyler Torbeck, Zach Torbeck, and Suzie and husband Greg Lawson; and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Marvin Lee Torbeck; step-sons, Robert Flannigan and Donald Flannigan; and sisters, Mildred Torbeck and Leila Dippold.
