Cherie Henson's Obituary
Cherie M. Henson, 80, of Mulberry Grove, IL, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Per Cherie's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, July 20, 2026, at 8th Day Venue, Vandalia with Mary Momett officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M., prior to the service, at the venue. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Parkinson’s Foundation. Online condolences can be expressed at https://www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Cherie Marie Tipps was born on September 14, 1945, in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Floyd and Frances (Fomera) Tipps. She married Marion R. Henson, and together they welcomed four children before later divorcing.
Cherie dedicated 30 years of service to the federal government as an accountant with the U.S. Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base. Even after retiring, she continued to use her accounting expertise by serving her local community.
A devoted public servant, Cherie faithfully served the Village of Mulberry Grove for more than 25 years as a board member. In August 2019, she was appointed Mayor Pro Tem before assuming the role of Village President (Mayor). She was elected to a full term in April 2021 and served until May 2024, always striving to better her community.
Outside of her professional and civic responsibilities, Cherie enjoyed traveling, relaxing in her swimming pool, and creating lasting memories with those she loved. Above all, she treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren, who brought her immense joy throughout her life.
She will forever be remembered by her son, Shane Henson with Shawn Paintiff of Horse Cave, KY; daughter, Christina Henson of Coffeen; daughter, Chamie and husband David Staggs of Keyesport; grandchildren, Sophia Henson, Kelsey Staggs, Carly Staggs, Katie Thacker, Keifer Thacker, Desirae Henson, Jayden Henson, and Skyler Henson Jr.; 4 great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents and son, Skyler Henson Sr.
