Elden Fisher Jr., 95, of Vandalia, IL passed away the evening of Thursday, September 05, 2024 at his home in Vandalia.
A Private Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 13, 2024 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Military Rites will be accorded at the graveside by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia, IL & Brownstown VFW Post #9770. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Elden Fisher Jr. was born on March 10, 1929 in Somerset, OH, the son of Elden Nino and Sarah “Ethel” (James) Fisher. Elden was blessed to have found two wonderful women to marry in his life. He married Marjorie J. (Davis) on June 22, 1951. Together, they had six children and celebrated 43 years of marriage before her passing on December 30, 1994. Elden later married Velva (Niehaus) Schaal in July of 2001; she preceded in death on July 11, 2017.
Elden was a proud military veteran, having served in the Unites States Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he and Marjorie began building their family in Zanesville, OH. The Fisher’s relocated their family from Ohio to Vandalia, IL in 1968. While in Vandalia, Elden was employed by the Unocal Pipeline as a terminal gauge operator in which he traveled for work; retiring after 37 years of service. Later the family moved to Northern IL to a town called Frankfort. After Marjorie’s death, he returned to Vandalia where they felt most at home. Elden was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia.
He is survived by daughter, Diana Fisher of Vandalia; daughter, Sue and husband Chris Burke of MT; son-in-law, Leon Otto of Ramsey; sisters-in-law, Shirley Fisher of Pickerington, OH and Joan Davis of Muncie, IN; grandchildren, Christine and husband Jacob Bolyard, Alexandra Micklewright, Quinn and husband Evan Weisser, Lori Otto with James Riley, Scott Otto, Kari and husband Devin Holsapple, Staci Berkheimer, Tim Otto, and Kevin Otto with Taylor Edwards; 16 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie; wife, Velva; children, Elaine J. Fisher, David L. Fisher, James W. Fisher, and Catherine M. Otto; brother, Dale Fisher; and a sister, Imogene Bennett.
