Elizabeth Aldora “Betty” Crews, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023, her 96th birthday, at the SBL Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the First Church of God in rural Vandalia with Pastor Zach Schaeffer officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00AM - 12:00 PM, prior to the service. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Elizabeth Aldora Rine was born December 11, 1927 the daughter of Rev. Ivan M. and Beatress A. (Williams) Rine. She married Garland Crews November 28, 1951 in Paducah, KY; he preceded in death on February 20, 1990. After her husband, Garland, passed Betty shared 20 years of companionship with Ed Craig; he preceded Betty in death on August 25, 2015.
Betty Red, as most people called her, was truly one of a kind; she earned her nickname while she worked and bartended at “The Office” and the Vandalia VFW.
She was a member of First Church of God, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary #3901, and Vandalia VFW Post #3862 Ladies Auxiliary, where she volunteered and was Chaplain for 25 years.
Mrs. Crews is survived by her daughter, Barbara and husband Randy Doggett; step-son Eddie Craig and wife Debbie; step-daughter, Barbara McDowell; step-son, Jack Craig and wife Brenda; grandchildren, Cindy and husband Dan Lutz, Stephanie DuFaux, John DuFaux and wife Georgeanne, Rodney Manley and Rick Manley; great grandchildren, Amanda and husband Luke Hachmeister, Chelsey Lutz, Nathan Lutz, Zackary Betti and wife Sara, Hayley Watts with Tyler Gwillim, Sue and husband Breon Young, Mathew DuFaux, Kain DuFaux with Haley Warner, Rainey DuFaux, Meghan Manley, Justin Doolin, and Jagger Manley; 10 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Marilyn Johnson, Joann and husband Alvin Roe; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Garland Crews; companion, Ed Craig; daughter, Linda Fisher; son-in-law, Carl Fisher; step-daughter, Diane Huskey; brother, Delos “Sonny” Rine; brother-in-law, Wayne Johnson.
