Farrell Gruenbaum's Obituary
Farrell Gruenbaum, 101, of Vandalia, died at 5:10 a.m. on
Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care
in Vandalia.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30
p.m. on Thursday, April 19, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with
the Rev. Peter Kolb officiating and military rites accorded by
Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia. There will be a
procession to the cemetery from Hohlt and File Funeral Home in
Vandalia, starting at 1 p.m. Memorials: Crawford-Hale American
Legion Honor Guard, Crawford-Hale American Legion Avenue of Flags
or Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be shared at

Mrs. Gruenbaum was born on Jan. 19, 1911,
in Seminary Township, Fayette County, the daughter of Edward and
Mary Leidner Eller. She married Paul Gruenbaum on Feb. 9, 1944, in
Hondo, Texas; he preceded her in death.
She was a machine operator for Johnson,
Stephens and Shinkle Shoe Factory, she operated Farrell's Coffee
Shop and she also worked at FAYCO Enterprises in Vandalia. She was
an Army Air Corps World War II veteran. She was a member of Holy
Cross Lutheran Church, Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 and
Unit 95 Auxiliary, AMVETS (American Veterans), Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 3862 and VFW Auxiliary, Eagles Lodge No. 3901, Vandalia
Moose Lodge No. 1447, 8&40 Commander Club, National Bowling
Association. She was a past commander of Crawford-Hale American
Legion Post 95.
She is survived by nieces, Luella Forbis
of Vandalia, and Rosemary and her husband Donald McMillan of
Brownstown.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
husband; brothers, Teddy, Billy and Ernest "Ding" Eller; and
sister, Ermel Eller.
