Garry Lee Carter, 82, of Vandalia, IL passed away at 10:20 PM, Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Greenville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Per Garry’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Garry Lee was born on April 05, 1940 in Shobonier, IL, the son of Harold James Carter and Faye (Elder) Carter Davison. He married Sharon Rae (Lee) on December 19, 1970; together they celebrated nearly 52 years of marriage and raised two children.
Garry was a jack of all trades; working various places throughout the years. He was formerly employed by the local vault company, Ritter’s, and Crane Packing. Most of his life, Garry was a mechanic, builder, and farmer. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Sharon Carter; son, Michael Carter; and daughter, Ronna Sarchet, all of Vandalia; sister, Ellen Marie and husband Mike VanUytven of Ramsey; grandchildren, Dravyn Carter, Jacob Carter and fiancé Haley Eskew, Shawn Sarchet and wife Elizabeth, and Brooklyn Sarchet; great-grandchildren, Luna, Whyatte, Avelynn, Remington, Raegan, Rylee, Leo, Bella, Oliver, and Isla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Galen Andrew Carter; brothers, Jim Carter and Oran E. Davison; infant sister, Sandra Lynn Carter; and sister, Viva Kuepfer.
