Genevieve "Genny" Phillips' Obituary
Genevieve F. “Genny” Phillips, 82, of Vandalia, IL, passed away at 9:35 PM, Sunday, February 25, 2024 at SBL Fayette County Hospital LTC.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00PM, Friday, March 1, 2024 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia with Pastor Zach Schaeffer officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Cemetery, Sefton Twp. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service from 12:00PM-1:00PM, Friday, at the funeral home. Genevieve Faye was born on December 07, 1941 in Fayette County, IL. She married the love of her life, Nelson “Wayne” Phillips, on July 26, 1959 in Sefton Twp. Together they celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage before his passing on November 19, 2018.
Genny worked in insurance billing for doctors’ offices in both Tennessee and Illinois. Later in life, after retirement, she became a cook at Vandalia Community Schools. Genny was a member of the First Church of God in Vandalia. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, but most of all, she cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by her son, Mike Phillips and wife Tammy of Knoxville, TN; daughter, Connie and husband Carl Perry of Knoxville, TN; son, Dave Phillips of Shobonier, IL; sister, Sondra Hastings of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren, Brett Phillips, Cory Phillips and wife Gabrielle, Steffen Kuykendall and wife Sarah, Patrick Kuykendall, Meaghan Phillips with Chris Steppan, and Cole Phillips; great grandchildren, Zeke Phillips, Eli Kuykendall, and Ember Steppan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Louise Gill and her husband Nelson “Wayne” Phillips.
