Gerald Aukamp's Obituary
Gerald H. Aukamp, 92, of Vandalia passed away at 5:00am, Sunday,
December 13, 2015 at Altamont Lutheran Care Center.
Services will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, December 17, 2015 at
Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Vandalia with Rev. Jerry Bagwell
officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to
services at the church Thursday. Burial will follow in
Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, IL. Memorials may be made to
Holy Cross Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
Gerald was born April 23, 1923 in St. Peter, IL, the son of
George and Lela (Niehaus) Aukamp. He attended the St. Peter
Lutheran Parochial School growing up; Gerald's confirmation class
was one of the last to be instructed in German and English.
He worked for Wayne Borchelt's Lumber in Vandalia and Vandalia
Laundry, but mainly he worked on the family farm. Gerald has
always maintained a relationship with the Lutheran Church; he was a
very active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and enjoyed
singing hymns during the services at Altamont Lutheran Care
Center.
He is survived by his brothers Merle Aukamp and wife Joyce of
Belleville and Dale Aukamp and wife Gay of Vandalia, step-son Ty
Rigdon and wife Linda of Vandalia, and several nieces and nephews,
and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, wife Jewell,
and brother Virgil Aukamp.
