Gregory Mark Williams was born on December 29, 1956, the son of John Oliver and Shirley Louise (Harrison) Williams. He graduated from West Aurora High School in 1975. Greg then married the love of his life, June Ann Rader, on February 04, 1978. Together, they celebrated 45 years of marriage and raised two children before her passing on December 04, 2023.
He was employed by the Illinois Department of Corrections and retired as a lieutenant from Vandalia Correctional Center. After retirement, he began working for the Fayette County Sherriff’s Department, as both, a deputy and maintenance worker. He was a member of Vandalia Moose Lodge #1447.
Greg was quite the handyman and outdoorsmen. He could build, design, make or fix anything and loved nothing more than to be out enjoying his time at the sportsman’s clubs, hunting, or fishing; taking a yearly trip to Lake Michigan. Greg also enjoyed taking drives, “bummin” as he would call it, never knowing where you might end up. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with family and friends, especially his grandchildren; introducing them to the outdoors and nature as well as doing many many projects.
Mr. Williams is survived by his mother, Shirley Williams of Vandalia; daughter, Elizabeth and husband Nate Rittis of Vandalia; daughter-in-law, Krissy Williams with Brady Timmermann of St. Rose; brothers, Steve Williams and wife Sue of Salem and Tim Williams and wife Bridget of Loami; grandchildren, Ryker Emerick, Preston Emerick, Samantha Rittis, Bentley Williams; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, John O. Williams; wife, June A. Williams; son, Anthony Mark “Tony” Williams; grandparents, Edward C. Williams, Alverna M. Williams, Lena Harrison, Roy E. Harrison, Nellie M. Harrison; and beloved dog, Lucy.
