Harold Tidwell's Obituary
Harold I. Tidwell, 84, of Vandalia, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at his home, surrounded by family.
Per Harold’s wishes, cremation rites were accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Crown Point Church, rural Vandalia with Rev. Pete Leduc officiating. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Crown Point Church, where Harold was a devout member. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Harold Ivan Tidwell was born on March 29, 1941 in Jasper, AL, the son of Lester Talmage and Linda Orene (Lockhart) Tidwell. He married the love of his life, Loretta Maria Swick on September 10, 1958 in Hamilton, AL. Together they celebrated 66 years of marriage and raised two children.
Harold was employed by John Crane Inc. for numerous years until his retirement. He first worked as a journeyman machinist, eventually being promoted to a foreman/supervisor. After his retirement, he became an attendant at the Super Wash. In his spare time Harold was quite the outdoorsman. He loved to golf, hunt, especially for rabbit and quail, and was an avid fisherman. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends.
Mr. Tidwell is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Tidwell of Vandalia; son, James L. “Jim” Tidwell and wife Angel of Vandalia; daughter, Pamela and husband Mike Lawler of Fillmore; grandchildren, Jamie Tidwell and Brice Tidwell; step-grandchildren, Dustin Lawler, Allison Rusler, Jennifer Lawler, and Makenzie Lawler; great-grandchildren, Whitney Eyman, Dravyn Carter, Kaden Tidwell, Gabe Tidwell; 6 step-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson, Braxtyn Eyman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Tidwell; and granddaughter, Heather Miller.
