Irene Reed's Obituary
Irene Hulda Reed, 88, of Vandalia, Illinois, a devoted mother,
grandmother and great -grandmother passed away on Monday, December
29, 2014, at Fayette County Hospital after a short illness.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 - 2:30 pm followed by a
funeral service at 2:30 pm on Friday, January 2, at Immanuel
Lutheran Church, Shobonier, Illinois, with Rev. Josh Frazee
officiating. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran's
Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran
Church Cemetery, Augsburg, Shobonier, IL or Vandalia Salvation
Army. Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia is in
charge of arrangements.
Irene was born to Henry & Hannah Lange of Shobonier,
Illinois, on March 9, 1926. She was baptized, confirmed and married
at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Augsburg, Shobonier, Illinois, where
she was an active member until her death.
Irene was married to Louis Reed on October 6, 1946, at Immanuel
Lutheran, and they were blessed with two children - David and
Mary.
Irene, a devoted Christian, was a farmer's wife for nearly 50
years who enjoyed working with her husband on their farm in
Kaskaskia Township while still providing a loving home for her
children. She loved to care for her family members, neighbors
and church friends. After her husband's death, Irene moved
into Vandalia where she volunteered with the Fayette County
Hospital Auxiliary and the former Twice Nice Resale Store.
She was extremely thankful for her loving family, especially her
children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all of whom visited
with her over the holidays.
Irene is survived by her son, David and wife Sharon of
Indianapolis, IN and daughter, Mary and husband Dr. Michael Fulton
of Vandalia; grandchildren Matthew and wife Brenda Reed of Fishers,
IN, Melissa DuCharme and husband Ed DuCharme of Apex, NC, Aaron
Fulton and wife Lydia of Dallas, TX, Aleah and husband Aaron Likas
of St. Louis, MO; great-grandchildren Alec and Emily DuCharme,
Hannah and Hailey Reed, Hudson and Eli Fulton,and Reed Likas;
sisters-in-laws Connie Lange of Sullivan, MO, Floreine Lange of
Vandalia, Dorothy and husband Robert Harpster of St. Peter, IL,
Elizabeth Reed of Washington, IL; Brother-in-law Raymond and wife
Ruth Reed of Loogootee, IL; and 18 nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, on April 8,
1996; parents; brothers Walter Lange, Oliver Lange, and Elmer
Lange; sisters-in-laws Leola Lange, Ruth Rubin, Lily Reed, and Mary
Rose Reed; brothers-in-law Howard Reed, Floyd Reed, and Alvin
Rubin; one nephew, Kenneth Lange, and one niece, Sheila Reed.
