Jack Scott's Obituary
Jack L. Scott, 74, passed away at 9:07pm, Wednesday, June 11,
2014 at his home in rural Brownstown with his wife and kids at his
side.
Funeral Service for Mr. Scott will be held at 10:00am Tuesday,
June 17, 2014 at Brownstown High School, Brownstown, IL with Dr.
Roy Yarbrough, Rev. Tom Bryant, and Rev. John O'Dell
officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00pm,
Monday, June 16, 2014 at Brownstown High School, Brownstown, IL and
one hour prior to services at the school Tuesday. Burial will be in
Griffith Cemetery, Brownstown, IL. Memorials may be made to
Haley Chapel, Brownstown Community School District Foundation,
American Cancer Society for Oral Cancer, Kassy Fulk Memorial
Scholarship, Fayette County Health Dept Hospice, or donor's
choice.
Jack L. Scott was born on June 10, 1940 in the very home he was
raised and passed away in, in rural Brownstown. He was the
son of Herbert and Aribert (Yarbrough) Scott. Jack married
Bettie J. Dowell on August 19, 1961 at Haley Chapel in Bluff City,
IL, where he and Bettie are members. Throughout his life Jack
farmed and managed Yarbrough Enterprises, was an insurance agent
for Country Companies, past president of Southern IL U-Haul
Company, and an IHSA basketball official for over 40 years. He held
memberships at Haley Chapel in Bluff City, Vandalia Moose Lodge
#1447, Mason's Temperance Lodge #16, IHSA, Gideon's International,
IBCA Hall of Fame, and was a founding member of the South Central
Basketball Officials Association.
Jack is survived by his wife Bettie Scott of Brownstown; sons
Troy Scott and wife Dee of Brownstown and David Scott and wife
Shelley of Greenfield; grandsons Daton, Dylan, Coleman and fiancée
Ashton, and Hoyten; granddaughter Morgan; great granddaughter
Brynlee; step-grandson Layton; step-granddaughters Kassidy and
Kallie; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Scott
and sister Betty (Yarbrough) Richards.
