James Robert “Jim” Ferrie, 73, of Vandalia, IL, passed away at 3:58 PM, Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at his home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Center Pointe Church, Vandalia with Pastor Rod Caswell officiating. Interment will follow at Griffith Cemetery, Brownstown. James Robert Ferrie was born on November 05, 1948 in Coweta, OK, the son of Robert and Ineta (Rutherford) Ferrie. He married Robin Ann (Washburn) Whalen on April 11, 1995. Together, they celebrated 27 years of marriage.
Jim retired from the Union Pacific Railroad as a freight engineer following 32 years of employment. After retiring, he began driving for Central Illinois Public Transit in Vandalia, where he was employed for 10 years. He thoroughly appreciated each and every minute spent in his professions and consider it more of a hobby than work. Jim also enjoyed the outdoors, especially mowing and yard work. He had an avid love for his family, church family, friends, and of course his canine companions.
Mr. Ferrie is survived by his wife, Robin Ferrie of Vandalia; son, Robert Ferrie of Matteson; daughter, Janice Ferrie of Chicago; brother, David Ferrie and wife, Sharyn of Waynesboro, TN; sister, Marsha and husband, Greg Trafacanto of Evanston; sister, Karen Ferrie of Vallejo, CA; and his grandchildren, Alexander “Cash” Ferrie and Jason Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda Hall.
