Jewel D. Hornbeck, 91, of Vandalia, IL, passed away at 2:06 PM, Monday, December 05, 2022 at her home.
Per the family’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no services at this time. Inurnment will be held in Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, MO, at a later date. Jewel Delores Stout was born on September 30, 1931 in Beedeville, Arkansas, the daughter of Alex “Jute” and Clara (Cadle) Stout. She married Clarence Thomas Hornbeck in 1946; together they shared 38 years of marriage before his passing on November 11, 1984.
Jewel was a homemaker; raising her three children. In her younger years, she was a PTA Leader in Maeystown, IL and was very active in politics while standing beside her husband as he was running for a position in law enforcement. Jewel had an avid love for BINGO and cherished the time spent with her family. She was affiliated with the Christian faith.
Mrs. Hornbeck is survived by her son, Larry Hornbeck Sr. of Vandalia; daughter, Terrie Harrison of Columbia; sisters, Fay Sumner, Alice “Dub” Luna, and Bonnie Hornback; family friend, Michael Joseph Hicks of Vandalia; grandchildren, Jody Harrison, Amy Grimes, Larry Hornbeck Jr., Amanda Whynot, Jessica Hornbeck, Kristin Ratcliffe, and Steven Little; great-grandchildren, Annabelle Seward, Michael Seward, Jennifer Harrison, Ethan Harrison, Winter Whynot and Skyler Whynot
Preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Tommy Stout and Ray Stout; sisters, Pearl Hawkes and Alta McCoy.
