Jimmie A. Wasser, 89, of Vandalia, IL, passed away Wednesday, February 01, 2023, at his home, surrounded by family.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 06, 2023 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Vandalia with Pastor Timothy Landskroener officiating. A Private Family Interment will be held following the service at Liberty Cemetery, rural Brownstown with Military Rites accorded at the graveside by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia & Brownstown VFW Post #9770. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM, Monday, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Dementia Society of America at www.DementiaSociety.org/donate. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Jimmie Allen Wasser was born on February 01, 1934 in Vandalia, IL, the son of Earl and Evelyn (Hubler) Wasser. He married Iris Eleanor (Breese) on October 19, 1952. Together they had four children and celebrated 70 years of marriage.
Jim was a proud Veteran having served in the United States Air Force, including a tour of duty in the Korean War. In his younger years, Jim was the Mayor of Brownstown and was also a volunteer for the Brownstown Fire Department. Later in life, he was employed by Owens-Brockway for 25 years. Jim loved collecting coins, dancing with Iris, and singing; belonging to a barbershop quartet at one time. He was a devout member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Mr. Wasser is survived by his wife, Iris of Vandalia; daughter Terri and husband Randy Braun of Vandalia; son, Steve Wasser and wife Roycie (Hill) of Mauldin, SC; daughter, Cindy and husband David Holaday of West Fargo, ND; daughter, Laura and husband Mark Bednasz of Cary, NC; brother, Ed Wasser of Glendale, AZ; brother, Dale Wasser of Vandalia; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, & 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Betty Lawson, Doris McMillan, and Kay Goldberg.
