John David Greer's Obituary
John David Greer, 82, of Vandalia, died at 8:40am, September 8,
2014 at his home in Vandalia.
Services for John David will be held at 10:30am, Saturday,
September 13, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia
with Rev. Kurt Simon officiating. Visitation will be held one
hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow in
Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, military rites accorded at graveside
by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia, IL.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of
Vandalia.
John David was born in Vandalia on September 12, 1931, son of
Dr. Miller Greer and Elizabeth McMackin Greer. He graduated
from Vandalia High School and Westminster College in Fulton,
MO. He married Sara Elizabeth Belden in St. Elmo, IL April
10, 1954. He was owner/operator of Greer Hardware in
Vandalia, later a Mutual of Omaha Insurance Salesman and an
independent owner/operator for Transcontinental Trucking. He was a
US Army Veteran, member and elder of First Presbyterian Church of
Vandalia, member of the Vandalia American Legion Post # 95,
Vandalia Country Club, NRA, and retired member of Vandalia
Volunteer Fire Dept. He was an avid golfer, hunter, skeet and
trap shooter. John and Sara enjoyed their years of travel
together.
He is survived by his wife Sara "Betty" of Vandalia; son John
Douglas Greer with Patricia Adermann and son David Michael Greer
all of Vandalia; sister Susan Hudnut of Indianapolis, IN; and
grandchildren Lauren Adermann of St. Louis, MO and Christopher John
Walkup of Houston, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Julie Ann
Greer.
