John K. Wright Sr. “Papa John”,75, of Vandalia, IL, passed away Friday, November 22, 2024 at SBL Fayette County Hospital. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia with Rev. Joe Lawson and Pastor Dennis Warner officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery, rural Vandalia. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00-11:00 AM, Wednesday, at the funeral home. John Keith Wright was born July 25, 1949 in Vandalia, IL, the sixth of eleven children born to Jesse Paul “Buck” and Margaret Janet (Jones) Wright. He married Sharon (Helige) and together they had two children, they later divorced. John worked various jobs throughout the years. He was employed by Fellar Block Co., Lach’s Trucking, and was an attendant at Liberty Gas Station, which then became Warco, for 28 years. Later in life, he owned and operated his own residential lawn care business; mowing for several families in the area. John had an outgoing personality and would try to get a laugh out of anyone. He loved nothing more than spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his siblings. John is survived by his son, John Wright Jr. of Vandalia; siblings, Kay Willms of Vandalia, Cathy Candler of Delavan, Mickey Joe Wright of Stewardson, Ronnie Wright and wife Jill of Vandalia, Debbie Smith and husband Herb of Vandalia, and Phil Wright and wife Julie of Decatur; sisters-in- law, Betty Wright of Gonzales, LA and Donna Wright of Mulberry Grove; grandchildren, Jessica Rose Wright with Seth Schrock, Taylor Renee Wright, Shelby Lynn Seaton and husband Nich, and Levi Dylan Rhodes; great-granddaughter, Aurora Renee Wright; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family & friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Shanna Kay Wright; brothers, Jimmie Paul Wright, Larry Joe Wright, Eddie Lee Wright and Jackie George Wright; two nieces; one nephew; and two brothers-in-law.
