Larry Chester Diveley, 75, of Vandalia, IL passed away at 9:37 PM, Thursday, May 19, 2022 at SBL Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care.
A Graveside Service & Interment will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 23, 2022 at Evans Cemetery, rural Vandalia with Pastor Vic Votaw officiating. Military Rites will be accorded at the graveside by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia, IL & Brownstown VFW Post #9770. Memorials may be made to the First Pentecostal Church of Vandalia, where Larry was a devout member or to Evans Cemetery.
Larry Chester Diveley was born on July 30, 1946 in Seminary Twp., Fayette County, IL, the son of Chester Edgar and Goldie Faye (Elliott) Diveley. He married Judy (Towry) in April of 1977; together they celebrated 34 years of marriage before her passing on May 29, 2011.
Mr. Diveley loved his country and was a proud United States Marine Corps Veteran. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post # 3862 and Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95. Larry was employed by Purina for several years; eventually he began working for Crane Packing where he retired after 20+ years of employment.
Larry was a kind-hearted, God-fearing man that loved his family and church family. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, mushroom hunting, and fishing. He was a joy to be around and loved nothing more than to care for anyone and everyone he could; always with a smile on his face.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracy and husband Rick Cagle of Newalla, OK; son, Travis Diveley and wife Lynne of Choctaw, OK; brothers, James Edward “Eddie” Diveley of Greenville and Scotty Diveley and wife Ada of Cedar Rapids, IA; sisters, Glenda Hamblin and Linda Cohoon, both of Vandalia; grandchildren, Brandon Diveley and wife Megan, Brandy Hawk, Zach Hawk, Crystal Hawk, Justin Cagle and wife Kayla, and Rachel Cagle; great-grandchildren, Kálani, Lálani, Jayden, Juliana, Jeremiah, Colt, Azelynne, Ariana, Connor, Trace, Noah, and Mason.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy; daughter, Kelly Jo Diveley; brothers, Gary Diveley and Gale Diveley; sister, Doris Ruff; granddaughter-in-law, Kristy (Mays) Hawk; and great-grandson, Zachary Hawk.
