Lela Themig's Obituary
Mrs. Lela Themig, 95, of Vandalia, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Willowbrook Memory Care of Vandalia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 28, 2024 at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, Vandalia with Rev. Fr. Seth Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00-11:00 AM, Monday, at the church. Memorials may be made to Fayette County Hospice or the Council of Catholic Women. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Lela Margaret Gulbranson was born on May 28, 1929 in Garretson, SD, the daughter of Elius and Ida (Berg) Gulbranson. She married the love of her life, Edwin Gerald Themig on December 28, 1948. Together, they celebrated nearly 68 years of marriage before his passing on September 21, 2016.
Lela was a former teacher and stay at home mother, looking after her and Ed’s nine children. She was a lover of all animals and enjoyed traveling with her husband. Lela was a devout member of Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, the Council of Catholic Women, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and was very active in the Cursillo Movement.
Mrs. Themig is survived by her children, Jim (Rita) Themig of Woodbury, MN, Sue (Charlie) Williams of Collinsville, Mike (Debby) Themig of Vandalia, Pat (Jamie) Themig of Sheridan, WY, JoEllen (Mike) Wehrle of Vandalia, Dan (Karen) Themig of Calgary, Canada, Jerome (Joanie) Themig of Jacksonville, Jeanne (Kevin) McDonald of Ft. Collins, CO, and Mark (Brad) Themig of Healdsburg, CA; sister, Ruth Chappelle of Bellingham, WA; 30 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Gordon, Emmort, Edgar, and Curtis Gulbranson; daughters-in-law, Marsha Themig and Ramona Themig; and grandson-in-law, Todd Thompson.
