Linda Townsend's Obituary
Linda S. Townsend, 77, of Vandalia, IL passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at SBL Fayette County Hospital.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Unity Baptist Church, Vandalia with Rev. Eddie Duke officiating. Interment will follow in McInturff Cemetery, rural Vandalia. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00-11:00 AM, Thursday, at the church. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Fayette County Health Department. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Linda Sue Koonce was born on October 30, 1947 in St. Elmo, IL, the daughter of Roy and Merena (Jay) Koonce. She married Charles W. Townsend on January 02, 1999. Together they just recently celebrated 26 years of marriage.
In her younger years, Linda worked at many factories in the area including P.N. Hirsch and Princess Peggy Dress Factory. Later in life, she began working for the City of Vandalia, from which she retired. Linda was an avid seamstress, loved to babysit her grandchildren, and enjoyed traveling with her husband.
Together, they collected many post cards and antiques throughout their travels. Most of all, Linda cherished the time she shared with her family.
She will forever be remembered by her husband Charlie Townsend of Vandalia; son, Andy Pryor and wife Leslie of Caseyville, IL; step-son, David Townsend and wife Sandy of Vandalia; step-daughter, Racie and husband Greg Keeling of Mulberry Grove; grandchildren, Carter, Colin, Breanna, Alexis, Keegan, Zach, Seth, Luke, Dylan, and Drew; great-grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, Henry, William, Samuel, Trenton, and Tillie.
Mrs. Townsend was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Marcia Barrish; brothers, Billy, Donald, Harold, Bob, and Keith Koonce; sisters, Dorothy Gerhart, Aline Trulock, and Arlene Gerwolls; and two sisters in infancy.
