Lorraine Kistler's Obituary
Lorraine Kistler, 95, of Vandalia, passed away on July 19, 2023 at Vandalia Rehab & Healthcare Center.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Vandalia, with Pastor Brett Cornelius officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Adell Lorraine Gödel/Goedel was born August 31, 1927 in Marion County, IL, the daughter of Jacob and Adelheid (Kruenegel) Gödel. Lorraine was raised by her grandparents, Herman and Emma (Auerlich) Kruenegel after her mother died in 1927, when Lorraine was only 11 days old. She grew up across the street from her uncle and aunt, Ervin and Edna Kruenegel, and was raised alongside her cousin, Janet (Kruenegel) Williams.
Lorraine married Rex Lee Kistler on June 24, 1950 at Augsburg Immanuel Lutheran Church; together they shared nearly 54 years of marriage before his death in April 2004. She and Rex moved their church membership from Augsburg to Holy Cross Lutheran Church when they moved to Vandalia.
They raised two sons, Kent and Keith, and loved going to watch their grandchildren play sports in Brownstown and Greenville.
Lorraine was a licensed cosmetologist for over 60 years. She owned and operated Parkview Beauty Shop, which was located in her home near Rummelin Park in Vandalia; there she styled and permed many women’s hair and manicured their nails. She also worked at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care styling hair.
She is survived by sons, Kent Kistler and wife Melody of Brownstown and Keith Kistler and wife Melissa of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Keri and husband Brian Buscher, Kurt Kistler and wife Keri, Sue Kistler and husband Jeff Burnam, Sara and husband Jeremy Mulvaney, Angela and husband Christopher Walker, Lexie and husband Markus Troschinski, and Beth Kistler; 16 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; husband; sisters, Helen Goedel and Evelyn Johnson.
