Louise E. Low's Obituary
Louise Elizabeth (Orth) Low, 85, of Vandalia, IL, died on
Wednesday, January 11 at Friendship Manor of St. Elmo, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 16,
2012 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL, with Pastor
Kurt Simon officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn
Cemetery, Vandalia, IL. Visitation will be held 9:30-10:30
AM, Monday (1 hour prior to services) at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Friends and Families of Fayette County
Hospital or to the Alzheimer's Association.
Ms. Low was born July 6, 1926, in Monroe, MI, the daughter of
Peter and Dora (Grundman) Orth. She married Raymond E. Low,
August 16, 1952 in Washington D.C.; they later divorced in February
27, 1986.
Ms. Low was a career federal employee in Washington, D.C. in
environmental health programs of the U.S. Public Health Service,
She retired from the EPA in 1981 to move to Vandalia.
Ms. Low was a founding member and served on the board of
directors of Friends and Families of FCH for 10 years; a member of
FCH Auxiliary for many years, was vice president of the auxiliary,
and served on the scholarship selection committee. She also
delivered meals on wheels for several years and served on the board
of directors of Fayco Enterprises and Operation Outing. She was
also a member of Vandalia's Women's Club, GFWC Illinois. She was
appointed to Fayette County Board to serve on 377 Board from
1991-2000. Ms. Low received the ABE award in 1997. Ms. Low
was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Vandalia.
She is survived by son, John Low of Olney, MD; grandsons Seth
and Robert Low; and ex-husband Raymond Low. She is preceded
in death by parents, brother Robert Orth, and son Scott Low.
