Marie Sutton's Obituary
Marie A. Sutton, 94, of Vandalia, IL passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Per Maries’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A Celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Unity Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Duke officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM, Saturday, at the church. Interment will be held at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, at a later date. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church or Unity Baptist Church. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com.
Marie Anna Sutton was born on August 04, 1930 in Chrastany, Czech Republic, the daughter of František Kohout and Marie (Traxmandlová) Kohoutová. She married the love of her life, Robert Joseph Sutton on September 28, 1949. Together they celebrated 56 years of marriage before his passing on September 09, 2005.
First and foremost, Marie was a wonderful mother helping her husband raise their four children. Throughout the years, she also worked at various factories in the area. She was a devout and faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church, Vandalia, for numerous years. Marie loved to paint and sing, especially at church. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family and friends.
She will forever be remembered by her sons, Richard Sutton and wife Elizabeth of Robinson, Donald Sutton and partner Sandy Frank of Springfield, and Thomas Sutton of Vandalia; 9 grandchildren, Aaron, Susan, Benjamin, Katherine, Samantha, Chad, Chris, Thomas, Tyler; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sutton was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Stanya Sutton Collier; daughters-in law, Marsha Sutton and Terri Sutton; and a sister, Stanya.
