Mary Virginia Mathes, 88, of Vandalia, passed away at 10:39 AM, Saturday, November 11, 2017 at her daughter’s residence in Vandalia.
Services for Mrs. Mathes will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Hohlt and File Funeral Home, Vandalia. Visitation will be held prior to services from 1:00- 2:00 PM, Saturday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family of Mary Mathes.
Mary Virginia Mathes was born March 7, 1929 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Homer and Venia (Sickles) Goodrich. She married Charles Edward Mathes who preceded her in death. Mary was formerly employeed as a waitress.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty Carpenter and fiancé Daniel Zur of Vandalia, Kathy Watts and husband Ronnie of Decatur, and Mary Virginia Steele of Vandalia; son, David Mathes and wife Dawn; sister, Shirley Watkins of Bloomington; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Pearl Goodrich, and brother, Harold Goodrich.
