Born on July 16, 1930, Melvin Eugene Huber was the eldest of seven children of Leo J. and Rosa M. (Lindemann) Huber. On December 11, 1954, he married his beloved wife, Evelyn Alice Hill at New Bethel Baptist Church, Ramsey. Together, they were blessed with two children and cherished nearly 71 years of marriage, celebrating their remarkable union just four days short of that milestone.
Melvin was deeply honored to serve his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War, from 1952 to 1954. Following his discharge, he worked for Schwartz Construction and Borg-Warner for a little over a year. Ultimately, Melvin returned to his true passion—farming. He dedicated 38 years to farming and raising livestock on his land in Nokomis, IL, where he was also an active member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau. In 1994, he relocated to Vandalia, but continued to help his son with the family farm he so dearly loved. In addition to his agricultural pursuits, Melvin also worked part-time in real estate with Century 21. Above all, he cherished his Lord, his family, and the farm that was central to his life. He was a devoted and active member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
Mr. Huber is survived by his wife, Evelyn Huber of Vandalia; son, Gary Lynn Huber of Nokomis; daughter, Vicky Arlene Williams and husband David of Conroe, TX; brothers, Donald Huber of Nokomis, Clement Huber and wife Doris of Ramsey, and Charles Huber and wife Wibb of Tolono; sister, Barbara Duncan of Taylorville; step-grandchildren, Kayla Sauder and husband Ben and Bradley King and wife Amanda; grandchildren, Kyra Huber, Benjamin Huber, Amy Pratt and husband Nathan, Ryan Williams; and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wayne Huber; and sister, Dorothy Archibald.
