Michael Phillip Burns, 66, of Vandalia, IL passed away at 5:15 PM, Saturday, October 12, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia with Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Visitation will be held prior to services from 12:00 PM-2:00 PM, Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Vandalia Police Department.
Michael Phillip Burns was born on July 28, 1953 in Alton, IL, the son of Donald Franklin and Lola Ann (Oulson) Burns. Mike was a former correctional officer for the Illinois Department of Corrections at Vandalia Correctional Center. His hobbies included collecting guns and knives.
He is survived by his son, Aaron Burns and wife, Kristen of Wood River; sister, Donna Gusoskey and husband, Robert of Godfrey; sisters, Cathy Burns, Jackie Skorat, and Shirley Furrow, all of Alton; and grandchildren, Addison Burns, Jace Burns, and Cade Burns.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Evan Burns.
