Michael McGowan's Obituary
Michael J. McGowan, 79, of Vandalia passed away at 10:35pm,
Saturday, November 29, 2014 at his home in Vandalia.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30pm, Saturday, December 6,
2014 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia with Chaplain Brad
Garner officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:30pm,
prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of
flowers memorials may be made to the family of Michael McGowan.
Mr. McGowan was born July 20, 1935 in Chicago, IL, the son of
Patrick J. and Mary A. (Fitzgerald) McGowan. He married
Jacqueline C. "Jackie" (Gillen) McGowan April 28, 1959.
Michael was a veteran of the US Army, a truck driver by trade and
was affiliated with Mother of Dolors Catholic Church in
Vandalia.
He is survived by his wife Jackie McGowan of Vandalia; daughters
Lynn and husband Kirk Swyers of Vandalia, Patty and husband Larry
Teal of St. Louis, and Keli and husband Bill Stolte of St. Elmo;
eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons Michael John
McGowan, Gary Lee McGowan, and Brian Patrick McGowan; brothers
Thomas Francis McGowan and Patrick Joseph McGowan; and sister Mary
Catherine.
