Mildred Meseke's Obituary
Mildred Emma (Schaal) Meseke, age 101, of Vandalia, Illinois, (recently of the Lutheran Care Center in Altamont) was welcomed home by her loving Savior on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 8:55 AM.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Hohlt and File Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorials be made to Lutheran Women’s Missionary League of Holy Cross Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society.
Mildred was born on May 1, 1922 to George C. and Clara Louise (Storck) Schaal in Lone Grove Twp., rural St. Paul. She married Floyd C. Meseke on March 29, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2015.
Mildred loved the Lord and her family. A lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Mildred served as an example of love, caring, and service; always putting others first.
She is survived by her sons, F. Gale Meseke and wife Helen of Shobonier and Dan Meseke and wife Vickie of Lebanon, Tennessee; daughter, Ruth Ann and husband Johnnie Schappachar of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Sarah and husband John Bohnhoff, Rachel Meseke, Kyle Schappachar and wife Jolene, Jacob Meseke and wife Alicia, and Nicole Meseke; great- granddaughters, Kailey Dicus and Emma Nicole Meseke.
In addition to her husband, Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leonard Schaal and Duane Schaal; and sister Agnes Lotz.
