Robert Varga's Obituary
Robert Vincent “Bob” Varga, 85, of Fenton, MO, formerly of Vandalia, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at his home.
Per Bob’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 01, 2026 at Overcup Baptist Church, rural Vandalia with Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 AM, Saturday, at the church. Robert Vincent Varga was born on April 12, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, one of two children born to Vincent and Helen (Horvath) Varga. After graduating from high school, Bob continued his education at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota. He began a career with John Crane Inc. in Vandalia, where he worked for nearly 45 years before retiring.
It was at John Crane that Bob met the love of his life, Judy (Schukar). They were united in marriage on April 20, 1985, and together they shared 41 wonderful years of marriage, blending their families and creating a lifetime of cherished memories.
Bob was a devoted member of Overcup Baptist Church, where he faithfully served in many roles over the years, generously giving of his time and talents. He enjoyed fishing, reading, traveling, and spending time with others—Bob never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He also had a great appreciation for good food and treasured his daily walks with his beloved dog, Dolly.
Above all, Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He cherished every moment spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life.
He is survived by his wife Judy Varga of Fenton, MO; daughter, Holly Norris of Vandalia; daughter, Heidi Upchurch with Victor Ojeda of Kirkwood, MO; brother, Raymond Varga and wife Peggy of Florida; sister-in-law, Lisa Schukar of Vandalia; grandchildren, Natasha Grill and fiancé Daniel Franz , Vincent Ragel and wife Callie Roson, Gwyneth Upchurch and husband Matthew Hall, Madilyn and husband Mason Schumacher; great-grandchildren, Ava Hall, Landyn Hall, and Chloe Ragel; canine companion, Dolly; extended family and countless friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; mother and father-in-law, Orville and Katie Schukar; and brothers-in-law, Ronnie Schukar, Randy Schukar and Rob Schukar.
