Roy L. McKinney, 71, of Altamont, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 02, 2026 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Roy Lee McKinney was born on January 12, 1955. At the age of eleven he moved to the Altamont, IL area where he was raised by his foster parents, Hubert and Bunny Smith. Roy was a graduate of Altamont High School. Initially, he entered the telecommunications industry, where he specialized in splicing wires. Over the years, Roy gained experience working in various roles across different companies. His most recent employment was with Pepsi, where he was responsible for installing soda machines.
Beyond his professional life, Roy was known for his quiet demeanor and few words. He was passionate about collecting Allis Chalmers toy tractors, a hobby that highlighted his appreciation for the machinery. Additionally, he enjoyed outdoor activities such as jeepin’ with his friends, emphasizing his love for adventure.
Roy's personal life was marked by a long-term relationship with Teresa Carpenter of Altamont, to whom he was committed for ten years. He is also survived by his brothers, sisters, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents .
