Samuel "Sam" Smail's Obituary
Samuel H. "Sam" Smail, 84, of Farina, passed away at 9:35PM,
Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Altamont Lutheran Care Center.
A private family service will be held for Mr. Smail. 
Memorials may be made to the Altamont Lutheran Care Center and may
be sent directly there or to the funeral home.  Hohlt &
File Funeral Home of Vandalia is in charge of arrangements.
Sam was born August 1, 1929 in Glendale, AZ, the son of Harlan
H. and Ethel M. (Beck) Smail.
Sam started farming at an early age and has continued throughout
his life. During his career of farming he received several
outstanding farmer awards; he enjoyed farming and also had cattle
and hog operations over the years; Sam and his daughter Debbie also
raised horses and traveled entering them into many horse shows, he
even jockeyed in horse races with his horse Lucky #14. Sam was
affiliated with the Farina Methodist Church; member of the Vandalia
Jaycees; the NFO National Farmers Organization; the Painted Horse
Association; the American Quarter Horse Association; and a former
member of theMason's Temperance Lodge #16.  Sam was a
kind man and was always helping others; he was loved deeply by his
family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara J. (Langley)
Smail of Farina; daughter Debbie Warden of Farina; brother Stanley
Smail and wife Peg of Camp Verde, AZ; sister Florence Pinkston of
Salem; grandchildren Damon Bowles and wife Jessamie of Vandalia,
Jessica Warden of Terre Haute, IN, Jacob Warden and fiancé Abby of
Stewardson; great grandchildren Gabrielle Warden and London Bowles;
and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
