Shirley A. Diveley, 89, of Vandalia, IL, passed away at 10:44 AM, Sunday, July 21, 2024 at SBL Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Vera Baptist Church, rural Vandalia with Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Interment will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia, Visitation will be held hour prior to service from 9:00-11:00 AM, Thursday, at the church. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial donations may be made to Vera Baptist Church, where Shirley was a lifelong member, to the Fayette County Cancer Fund, or to the Long Term Care Activity Fund. Shirley Ann Tate was born on January 28, 1935 in Vandalia, IL, the daughter of Clyde Jesse and Loretta (Miller) Tate. She married the love of her life, Donald M. “Don” Diveley on June 27, 1959. Together, they celebrated 60 years of marriage and raised three sons. He preceded in death on July 03, 2019.
After many years of service, Shirley retired from the Vandalia Community School District as a head cook at the Vandalia Junior High School. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, needle point, and word search puzzles. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family. Shirley never knew a stranger and was always a friend to those she met.
Mrs. Diveley is survived by her three sons, Sam Diveley of Vandalia, Stanley Diveley and wife Karen of Vandalia, and Mark Diveley of Hickory, NC; brother, Gary Tate and wife Doris of Vandalia; sister, Linda Johnson of Vera; and sister-in-law, Thelma Tate of Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Earl Tate and George Tate; and a sister, Wanda Tippitt.
