Shirley Curry's Obituary
Shirley Curry, 83, of Vandalia, died at 6:40 a.m. on Sunday,
Feb. 5, 2012, at Vandalia Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in
Vandalia.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on
Wednesday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the
Rev. Pete LeDuc officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in
Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of
services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials: Crown Point
Community Church of rural Vandalia.
Mrs. Curry was born on Nov. 20, 1928, in
Vera, the daughter of Cecil and Ellen Blaylock Sperry. She married
James L. Curry on April 26, 1947, in Vandalia; he died on Feb. 5,
1983.
She worked at Johnson, Stephens &
Shinkle Shoe Factory in Vandalia, and was a member of Crown Point
Community Church and Crawford-Hale American Legion Unit 95
Auxiliary.
She is survived by daughters, Marcia and
her husband Verlin Haslett of Fleming Island, Fla., and Deborah
Merrill of Brownstown; sons, Tom Curry and his wife JoAnn of
Vandalia, and John Curry of Covington, Tenn.; brothers, Roger
Sperry and his wife Margie of St. Elmo, and Gary Sperry and his
wife Judy of Manito; sister, Aileen Tinker and friend Joe of
Vandalia; sister-in-law, Ann Sperry of Peoria; grandchildren, Mike
Merrill, J.R. Haslett and his wife Betsy, Shanna Haslett and friend
Kenny, Teresa and her husband Greg Dow, Heather and her husband
Matt Grewe, MariVic and her husband Christian Moore, John Paul
Curry and his wife Dana, and John Luther Curry; nine
great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents,
husband and a brother, Maurice Sperry
