William H. “Will” Flynn Jr., 56, of Brownstown, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 17, 2025 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia with Greg Kline officiating. Interment will follow in Ritter Cemetery, Vandalia. Military Rites will be accorded at the graveside by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia & Brownstown VFW Post #9770. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 AM-1:00PM, Saturday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children. William Herbert Flynn Jr. was born on March 18, 1968 in Springfield, IL, the son of William Herbert Flynn Sr. and Diana Lynn (Grossman) Riley. He married Beth Allison Trexler on February 14, 2017; together they celebrated 8 years of marriage.
Will was a proud Military Veteran; having served in the United States Army from 1989-1997. Following his service, he was employed by the Illinois State Lottery as a telerep for over 25 years. Will enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially duck hunting, in which he was a member of the Cass County Ducks Unlimited. He was an exceptional artist and an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family and friends.
He will forever be remembered by his wife, Beth Flynn of Brownstown; son, Dallas William Kluckman Flynn of Riverton; mother, Diana Riley of Springfield; brothers, Christopher Flynn of Springfield, Millard A. Riley Jr. and wife Melissa of Petersburg, Jerome Flynn and wife Heather of Palm Bay, FL, Matt Flynn and wife Sarah of FL, Jamie Dabbs and wife Crystal of FL, Kenny Dabbs and wife Stephania of FL; sister, Kristina and husband Jeff Spoor of Petersburg; father and mother-in-law, Charles Trexler and wife Joyce of Vandalia; sister-in-law, Jill and husband Brad Tompkins of Smithboro; brother-in-law, Kevin Trexler of Vandalia; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, friends; and his beloved canine companions, Lyla Mae and Cooper.
Preceded in death by his father, William H. Flynn Sr. and wife Lynn, and step-father, Millard Allen Riley Sr.
