Glen Hobbie's Obituary
Glen F. Hobbie, 77, of Ramsey, passed away at 3:10pm, Friday,
August 9, 2013 at Springfield Memorial Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30am, Tuesday, August 13,
2013 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia with Pastor Peter
Kolb and Pastor Jerry Bagwell officiating. A burial will
follow the services at 1:30pm in the Witt Cemetery, Witt, IL.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm, Monday, August
12, 2013 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia, and
also 1 hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church Youth Groups or
to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Hobbie was born April 24, 1936 in Witt, IL, the son of
Herman Hobbie and Anna Renken. He married Sharon (Lee) Hobbie
on November 28, 1959 in Witt, IL, together they have one son and
one daughter. Mr. Hobbie was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in
1955 and made his career start in the major leagues as a pitcher
for the Chicago Cubs in 1957. He was then traded to the St.
Louis Cardinals in 1964 where he finished his career in major
league baseball. Later in life Glen went on to be a
supervisor for the Roller Derby Association in Litchfield, IL. He
was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia.
Mr. Hobbie is survived by his wife Sharon of Ramsey; son Glen K.
Hobbie and wife Debbie of Ramsey; daughter Linda and husband Jim
Rhoads of Litchfield; brothers David Hobbie and wife Carol of
Hillsboro, Roy Hobbie of Godfrey, Kenneth Hobbie and wife Delores
of Mt. Zion; sister Betty Hobbie of Hillsboro; grandchildren Bryan
Hobbie, Eric Hobbie and fiancé Kelsey Johnson, Laura Hobbie, and
Anthony Rhoads.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 2
sisters.
