Joe Payne's Obituary
Joseph E. "Joe" Payne, 85, of Vandalia, passed away at 11:56pm,
Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Fayette County Hospital ER.
Services for Mr. Payne will be held at 10:00am, Friday, August
23, 2013 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL with Mr.
Joe Gates and Rev. James Fackler officiating. Burial will
follow in Fairlawn Cemetery with military rites accorded by
Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95, Vandalia. A
visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm, Thursday, August 22, 2013
at Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia. Memorials may be
made to the American Diabetes Association.
Joe was born August 15, 1928, in Springfield, MO, the son of
Joseph C. and Leila (Young) Payne. He married Barbara J.
"Bobbi" (Flath) Payne on August 17, 1998 in Gatlinburg, TN.
Joe served in the US Army during World War II and was in the
11th Airborne Division for the Army. Joe was
employed and retired from Vandalia Correctional Center as a
Correctional Officer andCareer Counselor for IL Department of
Corrections #428. He was a member of the Crawford-Hale
American Legion Post #95 in Vandalia and was affiliated with the
Baptist faith.
Joe is survived by his wife Barbara "Bobbi" Payne, Vandalia, IL;
sons J. Carl Payne and wife Janice, Coconut Creek, FL, D. Mark
Payne and wife Tammy, Sarasota, FL, Richard L. Payne, Cape
Girardeau, MO, Gregory P. Payne and wife Janet, Tampa, FL, and
Robert D. Payne, Cape Girardeau, MO; step son Bryan Francois and
wife Belinda, Greenville, IL; step daughters Denise and husband Ed
Maroon, Monticello, IL, Lori and husband Keith Moeller, Kinmundy,
IL, Amy and husband David Graumenz, Vandalia, IL, Renee and husband
John Brink, Smicksburg, PA; grandchildren Joe Payne, Sidney
Payne, Shelby Payne, Allison Payne, Bailey Payne, Emily Payne,
Lauren Payne, Kiley Payne, Karaleigh Payne, Jonathan McKimmey,
Meeshia Halverson, Shannon Crawley; step grandchildren Ryan Maroon,
Jennifer Maroon, Stephanie Maroon, Shauna Thole, Cody Thompson,
Krissie Kline, Joe Francois, David Graumenz Jr., Nathan Graumenz,
Matthew Graumenz, Dustin Graumenz, Mitchell Graumenz, Tiffany
Brink, Zachary Eddy, Jacob Brink, and Dana Arndt; 25 greta
grandchildren; and sisters Mabel Gulley, Tulsa, OK, Betty Harrell,
Oklahoma City, OK, Marcella Clark, Harpswell, ME.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sandra Payne,
brother Donald Payne, and sister AnnaLee Woodruff.
