Katie Schukar's Obituary
Kathryn "Katie" Schukar, 89, of Vandalia passed away at 8:05am,
Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Fayette County Hospital Long Term
Care.
Services for Mrs. Schukar will be held at 10:00am, Thursday,
September 4, 2014 at Overcup Baptist Church, rural Vandalia with
Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating.  Visitation will be held from
5:00-8:00pm, Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Hohlt & File
Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL and 1 hour prior to services at the
church Thursday.  Burial will follow funeral service in
Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. In lieu of flowers memorials may be
made to Second Chance Animal Rescue or Overcup Baptist Church.
Katie was born March 13, 1925, in Vandalia, the daughter of
Walter and Lottie (Jackson) Hobler.  She married Orville "Sug"
Schukar on December 31, 1943; he preceded her in death November 15,
2003.  Katie worked as a caregiver and a homemaker.  She
was a member of Overcup Baptist Church, American Legion Auxiliary,
was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and the
5th Division Ladies Auxiliary, Gold Star Mother, Charter
member of the Vandalia Soroptimist Club, recipient of the Abe
Award, Gold Star Member of the year, and Woman of the year Vandalia
Soroptimist.  She also donated the land for Second Chance
Animal Rescue to be founded on.
Katie is survived by her daughter Judy and husband Bob Varga of
Vandalia, IL; sons Rob Schukar and wife Lisa and Randy Schukar all
of Vandalia, IL; brother Don Hobler of Vandalia, IL; grandchildren
Holly Norris of Vandalia, IL, Heidi and husband Daniel Upchurch of
Kirkwood, MO, and Megan and husband Heath McDowell of Vandalia, IL;
and great grandchildren Natasha Grill, Victoria Ragel, Gwyneth
Upchurch, Madilyn Upchurch, Padric McDowell, and Drew McDowell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Ronnie
Schukar, brother Harold Hobler.
