Robert S. “Bob” Hall, 102, of Vandalia, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 05, 2026 at SBL Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care.
Per Bob’s wishes cremation rites were accorded. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 18, 2026 at Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, Vandalia with Rev. Fr. Seth Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Mother of Dolors Catholic Cemetery, Vandalia with Military Rites accorded by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95, Vandalia & Brownstown VFW Post #9770. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, Meals on Wheels, or to the Sorrowful Mothers Ministry. Robert Shearer Hall was born on November 24, 1923, in Vandalia, Illinois, to C. Walter and Ollie D. (Shearer) Hall. He graduated from Vandalia Community High School before joining the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. During his military service, he married Marjorie Margoriute Price, the love of his life, in DeRidder, Louisiana. The couple, who had four children, celebrated an 82-year marriage, earning recognition as Illinois's longest-married couple in 2025.
Over the years, Bob held various jobs, most notably owning and operating Hall’s Trailer Court and Motor Sales. He was passionate about golf and was a dedicated member of Mother of Dolors Catholic Church. Additionally, he was involved in several community organizations, including V.F.W. Post #3862, Crawford-Hale American Legion Post #95, Vandalia Moose Lodge #1447, and served as an alderman for the City of Vandalia. He was a kind man who cared for all, demonstrating a life dedicated to family, faith, and community service through his actions and commitments.
Mr. Hall is survived by his wife, Marjorie Hall of Vandalia; son, Robert Hall of Wheeling, WV; daughter, Dianne and husband Larry Hopkins of Vandalia; son, Mike Hall and wife Candy of Vandalia; daughter, Julie and husband Danny Gable of Shobonier; grandchildren, Helen Hall, Gabriel Hall and wife Jennifer, Julia Hall and wife Donna, Maddie Hall and husband A.K., Melissa and husband Randy Sasse, Matt Hopkins and wife Beverly, Julie and husband Mike McCall, Chris Hall, Amy Carpenter, Andrew Hall, Danielle and husband Seth Whitehead, Chloé and husband Chris McNeill, Jake Gable and wife LeAnn; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; niece, Shara Storm; great-niece, Janelle Storm; and several other great nieces, extended family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Schaufler; grandson, Robert S. Hall II; niece, Beverly Lattin; and great-nephew, Dusty Storm.
